At Tijan it is our goal to teach and encourage women to recite the Quran with excellence bi’ithniAllah. We offer Tajweed classes from basic to advanced tajweed where students learn to recite the Quran starting from the Arabic alphabet to learning and applying the rules of Quranic recitation or tajweed; Quran memorization classes where students will work to commit the Quran to memory; Tilawah classes where students will refine their recitation of the Quran to a level of excellence, and so much more.

Our Mission at Tijan

Tijan is a Qur’an school that started in 2017 at Noor Islamic Cultural Center exclusively for women and taught by qualified female teachers to learn how to recite the book of Allah in the proper way and prepare women to be the “pillars” of Quranic teaching in our community Insha’Allah!

All our teachers are highly qualified and most hold an ijaaza to teach tajweed.

As a realization of this mission, many of our Tijan school graduates actively serve as teachers and volunteers in various NICC programs and others serve the Columbus community in various capacities.

Workshop offered as needed for those seeking to deepen their understanding of the Tajweed poem by Imam al Jazari or for those seeking ijaza

Classes Offered

Common Questions
At Tijan we offer a variety of classes for the proper recitation and memorization of the Book of Allah for those beginning their journey with it to those proficient in its recitation.  We also offer classes for memorization and recitation practice as well a study of Hadith and Sirah. 
Nurania
Foundational Course for beginner reciters or those wanting to perfect their pronunciation. Students will learn the Arabic alphabet with correct pronunciation and go on to join letters and words.
NOT OFFERED for the 2025-26 school year
Fee: $250 per semester
Preparatory Tajweed
An introduction to the basic rules of Tajweed essential for reading the Qur'an in the correct and proper way.
Tuesday and Thursday 6pm-8pm-ONLINE ONLY
Fee: $250 per semester
Intermediate Tajweed
A more detailed learning of the rules of Tajweed essential for reading the Qur'an fluently in the correct and proper way.
Tuesday and Thursday 5:30pm-7:30pm- ONLINE ONLY

Advanced Tajweed
This course prepares students to become teachers of tajweed by learning tajweed rules in great detail, practicing tajweed skills and learning to identify weaknesses and mistakes in their own as well as others' recitation and how to correct them.

Memorization
Memorizing the Qur'an is a dream for all Muslims and this class is a step towards fulfilling that dream. Students will be able to complete memorization of the Quran at their own pace under the guidance qualified teachers who have been through the same journey.
Option 1: Hifz Al Baqarah and Aal Imran- Tuesday 8pm-ONLINE ONLY
Option 2: Self paced- Friday 5:30pm- IN PERSON AT NICC
Fee: $150 per semester
Riyadh as-Saliheen
A study of the widely revered compilation of the hadith and actions of our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ compiled by Imam An-Nawawi; a comprehensive guide to Islamic ethics, spirituality and character.
Tuesday 11am-1pm- IN PERSON AT NICC

Sirah of Rasul-Allah ﷺ
A study of the life and lessons of our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ based on the book and lecture series by Dr Yasir Qadhi.
Monday and Wednesday 9am-10:30am- IN PERSON AT NICC
Fee: $100 per semester
One on one tutoring
Available only on a limited basis to those who have difficulty working in a classroom/group setting.
